5 excellent dog parks in Houston, TX

Houston is a great city that makes everyone from all walks of life feel welcome. This includes even those who do their walking on four legs.

Check out these five hometown dog parks that make your furry friends feel right at home:

  1. Danny Jackson Family Dog Park
    4828 1/2 Loop Central Drive

Located inside the 610 Loop and south of Highway 59, this dog park always draws a crowd with long strips of lawn, swimming ponds, and separate areas for large dogs and small dogs. Dog owners can enjoy pleasant walking paths and have the convenience of ample parking spaces. There are plenty of drinking fountains around, as well as fire hydrants at the ready for everyone’s safety.

  2. Congressman Bill Archer Dog Park
    3201 State Highway 6 North

Offering more than 20 acres of space for your canine companion’s enjoyment, this park in the western side of the city is perfect for a day-long outdoor adventure. Let your dogs run free in areas designated for their size. Agility courses give your pooch more than just flat terrain to frolic around in. Plus, check out the dog bone-shaped pools.

This dog park has been welcoming visitors since 2007, offering walking trails for the owners. This place is great for picnics, with shade trees and covered park benches, as well as restrooms for public use.

  3. Ervan Chew Dog Park
    4502 Dunlavy

This is Houston’s very first neighborhood dog park. It opened in 1994 as a designated zone for dogs to run around off-leash. It features a 9,000-square-foot fenced play area for your pet, pick-up bag dispensers, water fountains, and picnic-friendly benches.

  4. TC Jester Dog Park
    4201 TC Jester Boulevard

This “bark park” is located near the Houston Heights neighborhood, just outside the 610 Loop. It opened in 2009 and features 31,000 square feet of off-leash-friendly open space. Smaller dogs have their own 16,000-square-foot play area. Benches and drinking fountains for dogs are available in both sections. You can also play with your pets on the park’s agility courses and on-leash walking trails.

  5. Boneyard Dog Park and Drinkery
    8150 Washington

If you want to knock back a beer while letting your dog have a field day, head to this dog park. Enjoy the outdoor seating and picnic facilities around the perimeter of the park as you let your pet run, exercise, and socialize freely in this 7,000-square-foot space.

The designated play area is fenced and double-gated, and features community water bowls, ample shade, and pick-up bag stations to make clean up quick and easy.
